Cambodian Investor Demands Justice in Alleged Fraud Case Against YY Capital Chairman
(Phnom Penh) – An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice, seeking intervention in a case against the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei, who faces accusations of large-scale financial misconduct.
The investor alleges that Yamada, a Japanese national, abused his authority to manipulate property transactions, inflating prices and misappropriating approximately USD 4 million for personal gain and that of his associates. He is also accused of creating fictitious business deals, arranging loans totaling over USD 7 million under the names of prominent Japanese companies, and forging documents to deceive other shareholders.
Investigations indicate that Yamada controlled multiple shell companies across Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, appointing nominees as figurehead directors while personally managing all financial operations. Some of the allegedly misappropriated funds were reportedly transferred overseas to an account in the name of his wife, Ye Jun.
In Cambodia, authorities have filed at least two criminal cases against Yamada and his associates, freezing assets and bank accounts. Investigations are reportedly ongoing in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, into suspected embezzlement, money laundering, and breach of trust.
Through his letters, the investor urges Cambodian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensure justice is served, and hold the accused accountable. The appeal also highlights concerns about potential interference from influential individuals that could obstruct the legal process or compromise evidence.
